HPW in the pensions press - DB pension surpluses as strategic assets

We’re pleased to see our recent press realease on DB pension scheme surpluses featured across the pensions press, including Pensions Age, Professional Pensions and Actuarial Post.

As funding positions improve and greater flexibility around the use of DB surpluses develops, our message is clear: surplus should be viewed as a strategic asset, not simply as capital available for distribution.

Trustees need to consider surplus in the context of their scheme’s wider strategy and balancing member security, employer objectives, investment and funding strategy and the scheme’s long-term resilience.

As HPW Director Ray Hughes explains:
“Ultimately, the question is not simply whether surplus can be released, but how it fits within the wider strategy for the scheme.”
